Jack Hackett’s Irish Bar replaced the old Five Stags on the corner of Taranaki and Dixon Sts and very little (if anything) is different about it. The drinks and live music are good but the food is just average. We ordered chicken parmo, which was covered with cheese (but not Parmesan), and the Welly on a Plate chicken burger. Both were ok, just lacking in flavour. Staff were friendly on the day and quick to take extra drink orders while we waited for our meals. The best way to contact the restaurant for bookings is via Facebook messenger as their phone system mailbox has been down for several days, meaning they can’t answer phone calls. I’d go again for drinks and to enjoy a band but will probably skip dinner.
