A popular place to eat especially at lunch time for office workers in the CBD, Funicular offers fantastically tasty Mediterranean style dishes made by their in house Italian chef. Their signature dish must be their ribiolli Tuscan soup served with freshly baked bread. This dish is full of divine flavours in a generous serving size that makes the $16 price well worth the cost for delicious food. Make this place a regular!

Went to this place with my a couple of workmatesWe ordered coffees, which took 25 minutes to arrive, the place wasn’t overly busy. After waiting for what seemed like a lifetime,we finally received our coffees.Utterly disappointed, lukewarm bitter coffees.Service was just as bad. Will never visit this place again. If you want good quality coffee and great service, then I’d advise you go elsewhere.

Ishould’ve learnt by the first visit never to go back to this over-priced, poorquality, bad service eatery. Went back with some workmates at lunchtime. Simpleorder of Prawns, fritters and Salmon. Coffee arrived 10 minutes later with twobeing sent back as they weren’t soy like ordered. Another 10 minutes theyfinally got it right so 20 minutes waiting for coffee was not on. Food arrived +35minutes after placing the order. Fritters were like solid blocks of burnt lardand tasted awful. Prawns tasted like last years catch and were sent back and unfortunatelywork mate suffered the ‘runs’ later that afternoon that continued for 3 days. Salmonwas an off colour and actually smelt like rotten fish not like a normal smokedsalmon should smell like. Complained to waitress but it seems she was alsogetting complained at by other customers who also walked out. (Felt a littlesorry for her) Overall it pays to give this place a wide berth unless you enjoybad service, over priced slop and upset stomachs.

Never will go here again. Food was awful and it felt like they had used past its use-by date pulled pork in the sandwich. Waiting time was 40 minutes and colleagues I was with had the same experience.

Fantastic eggs Montreal. Quick service, great value with a heap of smoked salmon and spinach. Nice quiet setting with super friendly staff.

I’ve got to stop scoffing my food down before I take a picture! Nice range of fresh food and friendly service, had the tangy plum tart and a hot choc, went down a treat!

A few words about the disappointments I have experienced in Funicular- I have never been to a cafe where I have seen such expensive cabinet food and such disgusting behaviour displayed towards staff. I have been there numerous times and witnessed staff being berated and degraded in front of customers waiting for their morning coffee. I found the food delicious but overpriced for something I could have whipped up at home. I do not think if you are running a business that by disciplining your staff in front of waiting customers is a good look for return customers and for the general outlook of your business. In the time that I have experienced Funiculars service in the past month I have seen an array of staff members come and go, usually very unhappy and stressed. Please improve your prices and display a more appropriate attitude towards your serving staff if you want to maintain return customers. I am not the only customer aware of these problems with this cafe on Lambton Quay.
