A simple Japanese place that’s for lunch in the city. Food is good without being spectacular. A 3 is fair for here. The staff are very considerate. Good for a quick bite

Had lunch here today, they have a good variety of sushi, meals on rice & fried stuff. Super clean with some seating. Was busy during lunch so there can be a couple minutes wait if getting a hot meal. I tried the udon noodle soup – had a nice broth, lots of onion, spring onions, carrots, udon, 1 tempura prawn and few other tempura items for $9.90. Nice service.

Popped in here for a snack. Bit light on veggie options. Needed to double check if something was indeed veggie but it was all good. For a snack there were enough options. Establishment is bright and clean. Was quiet when we were there. The sushi was enjoyable. The veggie spring rolls were were a change from what I would usually order but they were nicely cooked, not too greasy. I’d go again.

I often come here for sushi with my kids. They are fussy eaters so I have to ask for specific combinations of sushi.Every time my order is them with a smile and always made perfectly and ALWAYS tastes delicious. Keep up the good work team. A well deserved 5 from me.

If I were to recommend one restaurant in Wellington, it would be this one. I have been a regular at Sushi Maru since they first opened, and since the very first time I went there I have always felt welcome and valued as a customer. The food is delicious, the staff are friendly, and the prices are good (best value for money: the chicken dimsim. Packed with meat, and only $2.20!). They take care of their regulars too, and have gained many loyal customers because of it. I have taken many of my friends there, and will continue to recommend it to everyone I know. I never buy sushi anywhere else now – it would feel like a betrayal! – Cas (and Rachel).

This place is very inviting, bright colours and good, fresh looking, well presented sushi and hot foods. Visited and tried the sushi today and a few of the hot / cooked items. I had the large chicken skewer, dumpling, teriyaki rice ball, and a few bits of sushi. Sushi was pretty good, the chicken skewer was good value in hindsight for a decent amount of protein for $3. I would have this and the sushi again. I opted for some of the cheap $1 sushi and some of the more expensive but I didn’t think there was much more flavour for the extra money so I would just go more cheaper sushi items next time and a bit of the hot food for a bit of a mix. I would recommend you try Sushi Maru next time you wander past. Friendly staff but not over the top which is nice too.
