No offense to the team at The Featherston but my experience this evening was severely average. Now, don’t get me wrong, average isn’t bad and many would have enjoyed it I’m sure however in a city that prides itself on a foodie culture, I just wanted a bit more pizzazz. For a Tuesday, it was quite busy but we were able to get a table straight away. Our waitress was nice and ticked all the right service boxes but didn’t shine which is always something I look for as it adds to the experience. The place has a tidy well appointed tavern look (win?) but as I try to think what colour the wallpaper is, I come up short so maybe a bit too taverny and not enough pizzazzy.Yes, those are words. My only real food option was the Quinoa salad which, on a dreary day, wasn’t quite going to hit the mark. The salad was predominantly quinoa (well duh) and cranberries. I have had some amazing quinoa salads and this just needed a bit of flare to it to make it a worthy main.Highlight for me was the Lake Chalice Riesling. If you’re into sweet wines, check this one out if you see it. It was like drinking Nectar and had legs for days.My friend had a medium rare steak. It was a bit medium for his liking and he should have gone rare he reckons. Didn’t help that the tomato sauce container was a bit faulty which caused a wee sauce waterfall at the start of his meal.Anyway, overall experience was a pass but I may pass on heading there anytime soon. Sorry team!
Visited here with the family last night Sat 24 August. We were shown to our table and was given water for our table. Ordering was easy. Food came pretty fast. Good as we were hungry lol.We chose 2 starters Wings and Skins and Chargrilled zaida sourdough with garlic butter. Delish. Then 10 mins after our mains came. I had pan fried fish and mash with spinach with tomato oil, which was sooo good and worth the $27. That mash was the best I’ve eaten. My husband had some kind of burger which looked really tasty. And I just managed to eat half my dessert, a chocolate brownie with cream. I asked to take the rest home.My brother-in-law jokingly said can we have it in a gold box with a ribbon and she said ooo I’ll see what I can do. Hahaha she brought out a normal take out carton and wrote GOLD on it. LolI really enjoyed my visit, food was absolutely delish, staff were attentive and very friendly, ordering and paying was easy. The only thing that wasn’t perfect was I couldn’t find the ladies toilet. There was an arrow pointing to the left, where there was a darkish corridor to the left round a bend and a huge flight of stairs and a disabled toilet, so I just nipped in the disabled toilet. Up the stairs maybe? But I will definitely be back. It’s all about the food and service. Which was perfect.
