I’m not really a fan of lechon coz Lechon in manila has/have a particular unpleasant smell w/c i don’t fancy. But Cebu’s lechon is different. Tatang’s was on my ‘must eat’ list during my visit in cebu. It’s a small place, nothing fancy, although i think it has a 2nd floor, and it’s easy to find. Landmark: JY SquareOrdered: 1/4 classic (160php), 1/4 spicy (165) and puso (rice in woven leaves). What makes Cebu lechon different is the fact that it doesn’t need any dipping sauce. You enjoy it as it is. I liked the spicy better, it’s much flavorful. If you’re very particular with your food, i suggest ordering plain rice, coz the puso that was given to us have brownish thingy (who knows what). But if you want to experience the local way, puso is a must!
Affordable and delicious! This place made me feel like lechon belly doesnt seem so bad after all (I still prefer the whole lechon) the place is accessible and near jy square mall.
Tatang’s lechon belly deserves a good rating. I gave 4 stars because the place is just small and warm however what made me happy was the good taste of the spicy lechon belly that I ate.*I was not able to take a photo from the place itself.
They’re known for lechon belly and they do it well. You come here, you take a seat and then you eat away with your hands. Place was packed when we got here for lunch on a weekday. Will definitely come back for a time-to-time lechon belly fix.
Tatang’s has crisp skinned, super juicy lechon belly. A bit on the salty side but no problem as it is perfect paired with rice and shared with others. They have classic, spicy and soy-honey glazed. They also have other dishes like the lechon dinuguan (crispy pork bits in pig’s blood, sauce is a bit more bland than the Tagalig version as there is no souring agent) and the Lechon Flakes for the win! Strings of crispy lechon, perfect for snacking or with rice.Wash it all down with a bottle (or two) of super cold Sparkle and you will be one happy customer. The place is very small with few tables, so either have your food to go or visit during off peak hours.
We always celebrate NYE with a whole slab of lechon belly from Tatang’s. The flavour is distinctly Pinoy and the skin is not just the best part. The belly is juicy and flavourful. This is always a showstopper during our NYE dinners.
