After my morning stint in Chinatown, I headed off to Lucky Chinatown mall and searched for a place to have lunch. Unfortunately, I’m alone, so I can’t try those fancy Chinese restaurants serving food lauriat style. This led me to search a place that I wouldn’t have near my area. I climbed up to the top most floor where the Food Junction was situated. There were some unique ones like Wan Chai and mainstream ones like KFC, Baliwag and so on. But what caught my attention was Thaicoon. I’ve been wanting to try this place, but the nearest from my place, which was greenhills, closed. I think they only have 2 outlets, so this is it. It must be fate, I must definitely try their meals.Since I have this love affair with Tom Yum Goong, I had to order that, though there was only 1 piece of Goong (shrimp). I got a little confused on my main dish whether I should try the Rice meals particularly the rice with green curry or the Sizzling Bagoong Rice. I went for the latter. I did not regret my decision, the sides on the rice were of the right proportion. It served good Thai food. Not the best but this is definitely value for money. I only spent 224 pesos for this plus my Thai Iced Tea. I was very satisfied with this meal.Honestly, I’m really envious that Lucky Chinatown mall has this stall. It’s decent Thai food, and it’s cheap! What’s not to like?! As I continue to go crazy over my passion for Thai cuisine, I could only wish that Thaicoon would consider a venture somewhere in Quezon City, or near my place, which is somewhere within the Araneta Center. It would be nice to have this restaurant close by. Service was ok too. The staff were knowledgeable about their products. It’s really just the fact that it’s in a place so public that it couldn’t get a 5 from me.
Thai’s can tolerate very spicy meals; but not all Filipinos can do the same. The sizzling dish is still hot even after removing all the chili bits. It’s worth a try if you like spicy dishes. blogph.net
This is what a Thai cuisine should be inexpensive and still very sumptuous. I tried their Pad Thai which is the closest I have to the authentic one when it comes to the taste. Some Thai restaurant over priced their Pad Thai. Their Tom yang is also very good. The acidity and spiciness are well balance. I was supposed to give them a 5.0 but I remembered that their Thai milk tea was very bland and lacks the taste of the Thai tea. But I would comeback for more.
Fastfood style thai food. Thaicoon is not expensive, so plus points for them. If one is craving for some cheap eats, then this is the place to be. As for the taste however, I would say its not to die for, but not terrible either. I would compare it to cafeteria food. It is something I wont mind eating, but I won’t be craving for it either.
Super love their sliced mango side dish. Must-try. I’ve had lunch here many times for the past months. But their serving seemed to lessen last time I went. They used serve the plate really full last time.
We tried their Pad thai that they sell at 99php.I really admire the concept, that’s really bold to set up some different cuisine in a food court, we definitely need more of such concept to improve the choices in malls. The Phad thai was honnest while not unforgettable but definitely worth the 99php price tag.
