Alta by Relik is a restaurant that deals with fusion of particular comfort dishes. They claim that theirs is Filipino-Spanish but I say, I beg to disagree. Alta is a fusion eatery with SOME Spanish dishes. That I can accept. And having said that, let’s review. The dish that caught my fancy was the Lamb and Beef Pares. I must admit. In my life, I have only tried a Pares somewhere in Espana, Manila the soup and the meat of which I didn’t even finish. I visited not because I was hungry but I just wanted to find out what the brouhaha was all about. And many many moons later, Alta served us with Beef Pares with Lamb to boot. How was it? Like the first time, it tasted like a very good watered-down Bistek. Good but not MY good.MY good was the Longganisa Flatbread with Salted Egg Cream. The almost perfect crust was generously loaded with toppings with pork longganisa leading the pack. Another stand out was the breaded Chilean Mussels Croquettes served with Bechamel Sauce and the rich Seafood Chowder. It was a simple masterpiece of delicate flavors. Fantastic. On the other hand, the deconstructed Bagnet Sinigang was, well, deconstructed Bagnet Sinigang. Nothing much to say here except the only thing unique here is that the meat was fried. Suggestion? Think of mixing the broth with something not common yet compatible with sourness (like Manam’s Sinigang with Pakwan or Mesa’s Sinigang with Pineapple). The Seafood Paella was flavorful. Good but not great. I want my paella to be a but more reduced resulting to more socarrat which everyone knows IS the best part of the rice dish.Lastly, I need to remind the kitchen to practice total care in preparing each dish because we know for a fact that whatever exits from the kitchen is a reflection of the restaurant as a whole. And whatever our foodie group’s unfortunate experience at Alta must teach everyone a lesson. I truly hope that such slackness and inattention to details be avoided in the future. There is just no excuse. I repeat, there is just no excuse.Just the same, good luck.

Service was okay. I like the murals + quotations listed on the wall. This rainy reason, we got to try some of ALTA’s newest dishes. First, we tried their version of Sinigang, the Asimest (Bagnet Sinigang). You can even adjust how sour the soup is depending on your liking. I’m not a chef, but for me, it’s not the asim-est but the tamarind soup tastes good. The Bagnet was crispy and tender as well. The Sizzling Bulalo was flavorful as well. Thanks to the gravy that’s smothered in this dish. They also have Lamb Pares. It was sweet and has a garlicky taste as well. Considering they used Lamb, it doesn’t have that strong fishy aftertaste.Their Nachos was meaty and cheesy as well. I like it.For a sweet ending, I love the Milo Dinosaur Cheesecake. I love the richness of the choco-flavored cheesecake. It’s worth ordering and trying here.
