This review is based on the quality of the food, not on how the place looks. Baker’s Fair doesn’t look all that appealing, with its dingy floors and distinctly 80’s vibe. However, I love Baker’s Fair. I find the effect nostalgic and the food simply can’t be beat. My family has been going to Baker’s Fair since I was a little girl (the Cubao branch). I’m 28 now, married and living in Fairview, so I’ve switched branches. Baker’s Fair is famous for two things: egg pie and dice hopia. I’m not a fan of egg pie in general, but my husband claims that Baker’s Fair egg pie is the best he’s ever tasted, and he should know. He’s eaten more egg pies than I (and his doctor) care to remember. Baker’s Fair runs out of egg pie by mid-afternoon though, so be sure to stop by right before merienda time. My favorite is dice hopia: hopia that’s shaped like a cube. Baker’s Fair hopia comes in a few varieties; the usual ones like monggo, and the newest iteration is chocolate dice hopia.. I’m nuts about it. It tastes kind of like a brownie, but still distinctly hopia-like. It doesn’t sound too appetizing, I know, but trust me: it will grow on you. Their hopia, like their egg pie, is made fresh every day, and kept warm under heating lights. Apart from hopia, you can find old-school baked goods here that you can’t find in modern bakeries anymore, like pineapple pianono and camachile cookies. They also accept orders for special-occasion cakes, but I’ve never tasted their cakes so I can’t tell you what they taste like. Everything is super affordable, though, so if you’re hungry and you have only 20 pesos in your pocket, you can’t go wrong with Baker’s Fair. If you love hopia and/or egg pie, drop by. Be early because the egg pie sells out really quickly, but you can usually find a couple of dozen dice hopia left even at 7 in the evening.
