Was expecting good things after reading the reviews, but sadly left a little disappointedOrdered what seemed to be the most recommended items – halibut tempura, duck ala mansi, pork curry nabe, chicken umami soba, and truffle mushroom risottoPlating and presentation get 5/5, but unfortunately this is a restaurant and not an art gallery. Tempura was a pleasant surprise, but as for the rest of these dishes I’d say they’re interesting and okay but i wouldnt try them again. Duck ala mansi was a good appetizer. The noodles in the chicken soba lacked taste. Pork curry nabe: might do well to have a little curry sauce instead of just curry flavored rice
I’m obsessed with hole-in-the-wall restaurants and this hidden gem in Little Baguio is one of them! We dined here last night and there were no other customers but us – because this place is well-hidden. But it’s such a shame because their fusion Japanese fare is worth a try.We had the tuna sashimi – which was okay, standard and thick cuts. The salmon aburi maki is good, but would’ve loved more melt in your mouth feel for the salmon and more torching. Cheese gyoza was a surprise. We thought there would be meat inside but it was just cheese. Nonetheless, the sauce and cheese was really good. The striploin steak melts in your mouth but they were a bit heavy handed on the green onion. The taste overpowered the steak. But I’m glad it was tender and cooked to a perdect medium. The star of the night was definitely the smoked halibut tempura. The smokiness of the fish complements the crispy breading and rich whiskey beurre blanc sauce. This order alone is definitely worth the trip! I’ve never had such a flavorful representation of tempura. MUST TRY.This place needs more recognition. In photos: Tuna Sashimi, Cheese Gyoza, Salmon Aburi Maki, Striploin Steak, Smoked Halibut Tempura kimpyvon.tumblr.com
