So I ran out of places to eat at podium, and I saw this new place opened and decided to try it out. Big mistake.Portion sizes were miserable. From what I gather from its hongkong origins, this is just an upscale genki sushi.Recommend – tempura (5 jumbo pieces!), seafood chahanDon’t recommend – salmon sashimi (5 miserable pieces), wagyu chahan (overcooked wagyu), wagyu (4 teeny weeny slices)There’s better Japanese food to be had for less. I pass.

I think I ordered the wrong things and maybe I should’ve ordered more but based on what I got – the Chawan mushi to me is nothing new. There were sour Sinigang flavor tastes on top and the creamy cheese underneath but that is just to differentiate it from the different kinds of chawan mushi served in the Japanese restaurants. I would want to eat a lot of it but Php 220 is just not so much to die for. The wagyu knowingly is very high grade and the mushrooms as well but it won’t really get you satisfied with the wagyu serving. I would not repeat ordering it again at Php 640. I would rather order steak anywhere else. I would be much satisfied. Though I would want to come back to try their sushi, maybe I would be impressed. Their house iced tea tho, I had a taste, it is too sweet for a Japanese restaurant.

I love the simplicity of flavors of Japanese cuisine and am extra delighted that there’s another one nearby my home. Sen-ryo, a premium sushi store in Tokyo just opened in The Podium. This international franchise was brought in by the same group behind winning concepts like Mango Tree, Genki Sushi, Cocina Peruvia, and Kureji. As you can see this conglomerate loves Japanese too, like me. Sen-ryo utilizes traditional ways of preparing dishes in Japan- fresh ingredients, classic techniques, and recent technology to bring out fine dining for you and me. For one, expect world-class, sushi-making artistry unfold in your very eyes here. The menu is currently short but already impressive. Come by here for a stretch of nigiri, sashimi, and kushiyaki options. I am excited to come back as they develop the line up further. On this trip, I loved the Tempura Udon the most. This bowl with plump shrimp tempura, enoki, and eringi mushroom, boiled Tamago and noodles warmed my soul. It’s good to share but for me, I’d rather have it solo. Have some Sushi Rolls, I recommend the savory and sweet combination in Golden Dragon Roll. This ensemble has the staple California roll topped with premium unagi eel and crunchy, tempura flakes. I also found delight in the Snow Shrimp Roll. The specialty of the house is the Nigiri. It’s your sushi that has a small ball of rice with elaborate toppings. Don’t miss out on the Seared Salmon with Cheese and the Sujiko (salmon roe). There are more filling encounters here too. Kick it off with the modern Wagyu Beef Salad, made extra special with imported wagyu striploin. It also has apples and cucumber. Next to have should be Sen-ryo’s version of Assorted Tempura. The thick and crisp batter is good and this bundle has shrimp, oba leaf, cherry tomato, enoki, and eringi mushrooms. Pair it up with the tasty plate of Seafood Chahan. alwayshungry.ph
