Bought Japchie coz I was craving for it. Waited for like 10mins and while eating it I noticed the rusty metal plate, so if I would get sick due to tetanus I would definitely know the culprit.

This is, hands down, the worst bibimbap I have ever had. Ok, I should’ve known better than to have bibimbap in a mall food court, but this is Ortigas, aka Little Korea, so it has to be good, right? Nope. Filipinos are the target market here (not a single Korean ordered from here at this busy lunch hour). While the portions are huge, and the fake plastic food demos look “appetizing”, the bibimbap itself was bland, watery, and had a weird aftertaste. Do yourself a favor and have Korean food elsewhere.
I had to run a quick errand from Makati and then head back to work, which meant cutting through Robinson’s Galleria. When cutting through that mall, I always take the same route—walking through the food court.I was craving for some Korean food. There are some legit Korean places a block away from Galleria towards the back entrance. I was just already too tired and hungry though to walk outside in the heat. Once in the food court, I bee-lined towards Kang’s Bibimbap. It was my first time going there, but I knew exactly where it was having passed through that place numerous times.Upon looking at the menu on the wall and all the pictures of the food, I ordered up the Bulgogi Bibimbap. Total classic for any Korean restaurant. It was labeled as their best-seller and priced at P119. How can my order go wrong? As I looked at the sizzling plate set on my tray, I started to regret my decision. My dish looked nothing like the picture. The carrots and cucumbers were wilted. The bean spouts were so caked in red paste sauce, it was as if they were mini spaghetti noodles on tomato paste. The beef bits looked smaller and lesser. And where was the spinach?! There was kangkong on my plate! I don’t have anything against kangkong. I eat it. However, spinach is my most favorite green vegetable ever. I expected that. And isn’t sesame spinach a standard in bibimbap or even banchan? The only thing that looked decent enough was the fried egg on top of the rice. When everything was mixed, I thought the extra gochujang would make thing better but no. It just made my mushy dish taste a tad bit spicy, nothing more. That’s why the vegetables are supposed to be crisp and firm so as to add texture when one chews. It was really just mush on a plate. The beef was barely there.Food: 1.5 – It was bad. A few simple improvements could have made things better.Price: 4.0 – Quite affordable.Service: 2.5 – Server behind the counter was friendly.Ambience: 2.0 – It is the usual food court set up. It does get very crowded on lunch and dinner hours. The renovation that Robinson’s did makes things slightly better than before, but still not fully finished.I should’ve just decided to go to one of the authentic places a walk away. It would be just a little more price, by just a tiny bit, but I would have no regrets!
The most disappointing bibimbap I’ve ever had in my life. No gochujang and they used kangkong stalks? Ano yun adobong kangkong? Don’t make the same mistake as I, never eat here.
Went there after Sandara Park’s meet and greet at Robinsons Galleria. Still on an anything-Korean-high, we ate here for dinner. The stall looks nice, they even have TVs that play K-pop videos. They even show infomercials that explains how healthy bibimbap is. Had Bulgogi Bibimbap. I thought they’ll use pieces of beef for the bulgogi but they used ground beef instead. I didn’t look closely at their food samples in front. And the serving’s small compared to the sample. Vegetables were limited, they just scattered it to look like it’s full. I don’t really like ground meat and I really find it too oily. I wonder if it’s really healthy at all. But it was filling and the gochujang sauce made it tastier.
As Robinson’s Galleria continue to do its major renovation to keep up with other malls beside it, one of the first areas they revamped is their food court. The counters are more sophisticated looking as well as the flooring. Kang’s gets a facelift but its quality of food doesn’t go anywhere. I took the liberty of taking a photo of their sample Bibimbap versus the actual. The most obvious part is the quantity of vegetables. And the quality of it too- they were not fresh, soggy and without life. Chicken strips were good enough but with lots of skin. The only thing I loved was their egg. Also got Kimchi soup. A bad pick for me because it was way too sour than expected. The spice though was acceptable. alwayshungry.ph
