My family’s first visit in Kuya J Nuvali branch was a failure. There were only limited items available from the menu so we opted to transfer to Gerry’s Grill instead. For our second attempt at Kuya J’s, we decided to try their famous halo-halo series. Here’s what we think:One of the best halo-halo. Shaved ice is super fine, finest of them all, almost like an ice cream. Not much for the toppings – saba, nata de coco, ube, macapuno, leche flan BUT just the right amount to compliment the creaminess of the super fine ice and take note of the richness of the leche flan.Of the three Halo-halo, Saba Halo-halo is surprisingly the best. It’s a finer version of Razon’s. Ube Halo-halo looks tempting but the original is Halo-halo is still better. Price is worth it and can be made for sharing.
Super bad service. Servers have no sense of respect to costumers, dont they go to training for costumer service or something? They just leave our ordered food and glasses in a bulk at one end of the table and let us arrange it on our own. Not friendly at all and no system with regards to their service. No one responds to our call when most of them are just talking with each other lang. Food serving was small and not that good, Pero ok lang sana un eh, what really ruined the place was the bad service.
I ate here with my family a little while back. I’d excuse their service that night because they explained that quite a number of staff were absent. But the food doesn’t really call me back either. The waitress who served out table told us their dishes were “to share” so we didn’t order individually. When the food came, the serving size was a major disappointment. And as mentioned earlier their team was down by how many people that night so we waited very long for each dish to arrive. By the time we knew the serving size was too small we didn’t have the energy to order more food and wait again. We ordered calamares (overcooked and hard to eat), puchero bulalo (if i remember correctly, which was dry and barely had meat for two people) and their famous crispy pata (there are a lot of other better places to get this if it’s what you’re after). For dessert though, we enjoyed their special halo halo. At least the meal finished strong somehow.
Food is okay IF it reaches your table. Grabbed a quick lunch, husband and I shared a viand and veggies. Viand came first. After a few minutes, we followed up the veggies. Halfway through, still no veggies. Followed it up again and heard them calling out to the kitchen. We were done with the viand snd still no veggies. Cancelled the order and asked for the tab. It took soooo long to give me the tab, so i approached the cashier to pay. Asked the manager for an explanation. She will investigate. What the **%%#?? You don’t even know what’s going on in your small restaurant??? They said the cook didn’t see the veggies on the list. The waiter wasn’t of any help at all. Gave this resto a second chance since they messed up before, too. NOT COMING BACK ANYMORE! Service sucks!
Nestled inside an upper class mall, this location is still small for the consumer traffic in the area. The location has good ambiance but the tables are too close to the booths. With the busboy and the waiters, it’s hard to maneuver around the dining area. The waiters were a little slow to seat us even when the restaurant wasn’t as busy. We even had to help ourselves to some more menus before they noticed. With the food, I have to ask, is the restaurant after a fine dining experience with the table set-up and plating or is it after a taste of the Filipino masses? There is no issue too much for the taste of the Filipino food served, it’s just that the serving is less than appealing for the price. I’m not asking for a whole table full of food but it just seems “small servings “. We ordered the personal set meals that had good variety, beef pares and garlic rice, sisig with pancit canton, and we tried to order the pork bbq with rice but was not available nor any of the bbq items on the menu. They just suggested us to get a whole fried chicken instead. This was for the kids so we agreed. We also had a Bicol express for an extra viand. The pares was good with beef cubes and flavourful sauce but the meat still soft and tender complimented by the garlic rice. The sisig was evenly flavoured in a sizzling plate with a lone egg. It came with plain rice and pancit canton that had very few ingredients in it. The fried chicken was over cooked and became hard than crispy. The inside became dry. Bicol express had the right spice and taste to a classic but was again over cooked to an extent when the vegetables were too mushy. For desert, we asked for the Duo Halo-halo for take out but took a very long time to come even after we paid our bill. The waiter seemed not interested and no sense of urgency to get us our last order even when we gave our bill. Maybe it’s not the same for every location and I hope I still have time to try out another one but this location has to step it up in terms of dining experience.
Their Crispy Pata was so gummy and not crispy at all. We’ve been in different Kuya J branches and theirs were crunchy so we were disappointed in this outlet.Their place has enough space, chairs are comfortable, and is well lit. Serving time was fast maybe because there were few customers then and most staff were nice.
heard a mix of reviews about their halu-halo so i tried itwe tried the ube variant and it didn’t disappoint. generous serving, the shaved ice was smooth like ice cream.we also ordered pancit canton. staff said it’s good for 2 to 3. don’t take their word for it. serving’s good for two, max.
