We tried this place since it’s new. But unfortunately it was disappointing. The place was okay but the table and seats were abysmal, common carpenters coudlve made better quality chairs and tables. And of courrse the food, The way the food looked or was prepared was no where near authentic this is coming from somebody who live in Japan for 3 years. 7 eleven bentos are waaaay better than the food they have by a long shot. We ordered the gyudon, curry katsudon, tendon, and yasai itame. Lets start with the gyudon. It was bone dry and over cooked, the egg which was supposed to be very soft boiled just to keep its shape was almost hard boiled. The tendon was similarly disappointing since they obviously switched some ingredients for cheaper ones because the tempura didn’t look or taste right. As for the katsu curry, the curry was obviously store bought curry and the katsu was like something you get out of a canteen. Overall Shinsen was a big let down. There are lots of similarly priced Jap restaurants that are better overall like: Ippon Yari, Ryuma, and Umenoya. Albeit Umenoya is only slightly better that Shinsen.
Finally they are open!!! Probably the best and most authentic japanese restaurant in the area! Everything is a must try but I would recommend trying first their grilled salmon head, salmon aburi, fried oysters and the bento as well. Will definitely be back!
