Fado Traditional Song of Portugal Fado has remote origins and influences of inherited music from the Moorish, Brasil and Africa (Portuguese discoveries - XIV century) and became better known in the XIX century. Fado, until XX century, was sing in the streets, retreats and hookers's houses by common people. The themes most sung in fado are longing (saudade), nostalgie, jealousy, small stories of everyday life of typical neighborhoods and the labors of the bulls. Modern fado began and had its heyday with the great Amalia Rodrigues.
