Quirky yet cozy ambience. Great food. A little on the spicier side. We tried :1. Vada paav : it was really good.2. Paav bhaji – the paav comes with some masala inside. But this tasted great! Very spicy.3. Veg platter : this was alright4. Virgin pinacolada and fresh orange juice : Both goodUpdate : Recently tried the Pani puri here. Best in Doha. Amazing.Papdi chaat is okay.
I had heard a lot about this restaurant from some friends of mine so I decided to give it a shot. It’s a bit far from the center of Doha city and the roads are kind of under construction but it still wasn’t hard to find the restaurant. The ambience of the place is lovely and I personally love their decor. The servers were very friendly and helped us with the menu by recommending their best sellers. We ordered okra fries, baby corn fritters, pani puri, gol gappe chaat, lentil soup, cheesy pav bhaji, dhabeli, onion roast dosa, and masala coke and tea. The okra fries were great. I’m not a fan of okra but these tasted really good. They weren’t as crispy as we expected. I have had okra fries in Saffron at Katara before and theirs are much crispier and tastier but these were still good. The baby corn fritters were really good too and these were surprisingly crispy. The pani puri would have to be my absolute favorite item from the list. The puri was fresh and crispy and the pani was tangy yet spicy. Some of the best pani puri I’ve had in Qatar! The gol gappe chaat had a lot more flavor. It was sweet, tangy and had just a hint of spice at the same time. While it was good, I still preferred the pani puri. The lentil soup was average. The waiter warned us that it would be a little spicy but I didn’t think so. It was rather bland to be perfectly honest. I’ve had much better lentil soup before but it was still good. Unfortunately this is where the good food items stop. All food that was tried after was rather disappointing. The dhabeli was sweet and the pav was too soft so it didn’t taste very good. The cheesy pav bhaji looked delicious but when I tried to mix the cheese into the bhaji, it remained a lump. I have to admit I was happy with the fact that the bhaji wasn’t sweet, as that’s a problem I’ve found quite frequently with pav bhaji in Doha. Again, the pav was soft rather than lightly toasted as I had expected. The onion roast dosa was average too. Not that great but not all that bad. The flavors in the masala coke were overpowered by the coke and the chaat masala that was added in was barely there. To be fair, the waiter did recommend another drink to me and tell me it would be much better but I insisted on it. Finally, the tea was pretty good. It was strong, bitter and tasted strongly of cinnamon. Overall, I was quite happy with the meal. The people I went with were vegetarians so I didn’t get an opportunity to try the non-veg options on the menu so I suppose I’ll have to return for those. Overall, I would recommend that you give this place a try. The food is pretty good and it’s not very expensive.
