About
Fondue, stemming from the French verb meaning "to melt", is largely agreed upon as a centuries-old Swiss tradition, although France has also been credited for the invention. Fondue eventually became popular in the United States in the 1960's and 1970's, resulting in the creation of new ways to fondue. Chocolate fondue was created in New York City in 1964 by Chef Conrad Egli of Switzerland. At The Melting Pot Restaurants, we have expanded traditional fondue to become an exciting and interactive dining experience like no other. We define fondue as a unique experience known as "the fondue effect," a culinary adventure that creates memorable moments for all occasions with couples, families, and friends. As well, we offer an expertly-trained staff to help guide you through the process so it's easy and fun. The Melting Pot is the world's largest fondue franchise with over 130 restaurants, and over 20 in development across the globe. The first restaurant opened in Maitland, Florida in 1975 and featured just three menu items: Swiss cheese fondue, beef fondue, and a chocolate fondue dessert.
