Crystal Jade La Mian XLB is a casual dining chain which serves some decent but underwhelming Shanghaiese/Cantonese fare. Located next to the hyper market, the Jurong Point outlet is perpetually crowded though the electronic queue has helped diners to estimate the waiting duration. My mates and I ordered a feast because we are lazy to wander to the CBD after a long day. We ordered their XLBs, Siew Mais, sweet and sour soup, sweet and sour pork, mapo tofu, so on and so forth. The XLBs and Siew Mais, unlike hatted restaurants in Sydney, are freshly kneaded and steamed behind the glass window at the entrance of the restaurant. The soup dumpling skin is thin but they are totally inferior to those godlike XLBs I have tried in Shanghai. Similarly, the siew mais are fresh and springy but is completely inferior to the delicate and beautiful ones at the three Michelin-starred Lung King Heen. Hits – Sweet and Sour Pork. The crispy and crunchy pork cubes are tossed in tangy and sour tomato sauce. They are delicious but the pork cubes can be smaller so that it is convenient to finish in a biteThe honey whiting were delicious. My ex-girlfriend likes it. The whiting were marvellously fried and covered with honey and occasional spice. Misses – the Greens were awful – too raw.
Great food and great service for a price. The wait was not long but their seats can be qyickly taken up on busy days. Wait for food is worth it as they have the best noodles around.
