Heng Long Teochew Porridge is an easygoing Teochew-style eatery at the corner of Jalan Rengkam and Upper Serangoon Road in Hougang. The nondescript eatery features stretches of metallic trays offering a wide assortment of traditional self-serve Singaporean fare and sidewalk seats facing the main road. My mate and I were here for some porridge a few months ago after Singapore recorded its lowest temperatures in decades (21 degrees). We ordered several dishes include their signature braised pork and fried beancurd skin. While the braised pork was tender and flavourful, other side dishes like steamed custard eggs, fried sambal French beans and gongbao chicken were purely cold distasteful. We would still drop by for another meal but we would certainly be more selective in our meals.
