Maybe a bit disappointing, the chicken is not as juicy and slippery as I imagine, a bit over cook. However the rice is really nice, the other one I had at Bedok Blk 511 is a lot better with chicken but not as good in rice.
I’d heard about this restaurant for a while but never got around to coming here. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and will definitely be coming back here more often. The portion for the fish head curry is really big so I’d recommend it if you have a really big appetite.
The chicken used at Five Star is kampung chicken, which is free-range, less in fat and rich in flavour. The meat doesn’t have the visible glossiness due to low fat content but by no means dry. It is in fact very juicy and tasty. Having said that, the rice is dry and does not have much chicken flavour. Also gotta love those crispy prawn paste chicken winglets, your taste buds are definitely triggered as soon as the prawn paste aroma hits your nose. If you wanna get your chicken rice fix and still stay reasonably healthy, this is the spot but perhaps don’t expect it to be the best chicken rice place as a whole. instagram.com
The rice was a little starchier and oily compare to other chicken rice we had. I prefer my rice to be a little al dente. But their roasted chicken and steamed chicken was wonderful. The meat was juicy and flavourful. No very fatty. The chicken was on a bed of sliced cucumbers and a good splash of light soya sauce and sesame oil. The chilli paste was one of the spiciest I have tried and it hits all the right spots. Has a good amount of garlicky taste to it. The menu has a variety of dishes worth trying. It gets a crowded during the weekends so be sure to visit them on the off peak periods
