Wei Yi is a hawker stall at Tanglin Halt Wet Market in Queenstown. The nondescript stall offers two dishes: Laksa and Prawn Noodles. There are several kinds of Laksas in Singapore. First, there are curry laksas which use curry as its broth. Second, Assam laksas which use tamarind and mackerel fish broth. Third, nonya laksas with rich and thick coconut milk. Fourth, katong laksas with chopped noodles and extremely watery broth and considerably less milk. Wei Yi’s version bears resemblance of both curry and katong laksas with a distinctive light and manageable base, and some generous helping of curry leaves and dried shrimps. My $8 bowl also includes huge and fresh tiger prawns which are sweet and succulent. However, the curry laksas lack an addictive extra kick (dried shrimps and lots of them).Beware: queues are one hour long during lunch time.
