About
A pleasant historic town, Kranj is perched on a rocky plateau just above the confluence of two mountain rivers, namely the Sava and Kokra rivers. In the old city centre, the buildings are arranged around a rectangular square featuring a fountain, a Town Hall as well as a parish church of St Canzian, and opposite all these town sights there is the oldest restaurant in Kranj called Stari Mayr (The Old Mayr). Having been run for more than hundred years, the Stari Mayr restaurant seduces its clients with the exclusively prepared Slovenian dishes eaten "with a spoon", such as goulash or stewed tripe, offering as well as different steaks, salad plates or home-made cottage cheese dumplings. In summertime, guests can enjoy sitting in one of the most picturesque atriums in the old city centre and tasting the restaurant's grill specialities. Different thematic rooms of the restaurant (the so called "Preeren and Jenko rooms" as well as the baroque room) are an ideal place for organising birthday parties, the End-of-the-Year celebrations, wedding parties, business meetings, etc. And for all those who are more culture-oriented, the restaurant organises literary evenings as well.
