I wish Fishaways and Ocean Basket was an International thing because I clearly am dying to see another Ocean Basket but I have to wait a while before I come to South Africa again. I really dig this place. I would have loved to try the sushi but there is always a next time. I did however order the platter for two with calamari, heads, prawns, mussels and fried fish with a serving of rice and chips. Oh was I in heaven!! I am a seafood lover if that can explain why I was drooling so much. For the starters we had fried calamari heads and grilled halloumi with the dips. I can’t really remember the names of the dips except the tart tartar sauce and the minced garlic. The flavors are on point. The rice (which I expected to be bland) was delicately flavored and had just the right amount of bite to it. Try dribbling some butter on it before you spoon it into your mouth. The calamari was so tender and well seasoned. The mussels were the star of my platter because they melted like butter in my mouth. The prawns were beautiful as well because I don’t take very well to prawns and I was amazed that I had no ill reaction. They were well flavored and absolutely fresh. I am so in love with Ocean Basket! I did not try any of the desserts but I am saving that for my next time to the country.

It seems not to be filling at first but I think I will settle for the Calamari starter to follow. The setting is very spacious and can find a quieter corner. Zuma was my waiter. Very friendly, prompt and on the ball. Jip, definitely more filling than anticipated. I cant finish the calamari starter. Definitely a friendly family restaurant. Will visit this outlet again.
