Awesome food and lovely ambience. Met with the owner Ricky, very welcoming and hospitable. Love family run restaurants, the attention to detail is what will keep people coming back. Everyone at our table loved their food. Portions are epic and the food and service is excellent. Love it.

There are quite a number of Portuguese family owned restaurants in the Edenvale area and so, I have decided to pay a visit to another one of them. The service was excellent. The food was not too far off. The lamb shank had a nice meaty sauce which would have paired pretty well with the red wine, and their chips were to die for. The only down point was that the pork fillet had a very strong alcohol taste which overpowered the Bifana dish. Other than that, the dishes were pretty good. The rabbit stew wasn’t bad and if your taste are adventurous enough, then that dish is the one to try.

Eira Moura is your typical authentic, no-frills neighbourhood local geared towards family-friendly dining at affordable prices. It is also notably always closed on Sundays (which is unusual in this day and age). Ambience: 3/5 As far a locations go, 12th Avenue in Edenvale is not my first pick. I prefer Eira Moura’s inside seating, simply because the outside tables make me feel as if I am in a jail cell of some sort. That being said, when it comes down to security and safety, hand’s down it would not be decision as to whether I’d prefer them to be there or not. Eira Moura’s interiors can be described as cheap and cheerful, and I would venture as far as to say that it has also has a homely feel to it which I like.Service: 5/5Since opening in 1999, Eira Moura has a special place in my heart as one of my favourite Portuguese locals in Johannesburg because the Neves family run it with pride and efficiency! To date, I have never experienced anything but friendly and efficient service. Food: 4/5 The Neves family have been in the food industry for over thirty years and their experience in serving authentic Portuguese food speaks for itself. My notable favourites:Eira Moura’s traditional Caldo Verde ‘Green’ soup.Grilled Calamari with lemon, butter & garlic sauce;Goat Stew (a suprisingly popular choice);Bacalhau;Eira’s Prego Roll and chips (their Prego sauce is out of this world and the rump steak cooked to perfection!)*Recommendation: Eira Moura is must-try for those of you after authentic Portuguese at good prices!
