Four of us went together to Half Glass on a Saturday night. The place was full, which seemed a good sign. Portuguese rolls were provided, but these were much thicker and heavier than Portuguese rolls I have seen practically everywhere else. Two of us ordered steaks, one of us ordered sole, and I ordered bacalhau. One of the steaks was requested medium, it came back medium rare, and not consistently cooked throughout the whole steak. The other steak was requested medium rare, but it was so rare that much of it was red in the middle, much of it was raw! I would never touch such a steak! The one who ordered the sole said it was ok, not as good as some soles she’s had elsewhere, and the outer bones had not been removed. My bacalhau, however, was delicious.  There was nothing wrong with the service. Waiter was attentive and prompt. But no manager ever came to our table to ensure everything was ok.  Johannesburg is chock full of excellent Portuguese restaurants. In the long run, I think Half Glass needs to seriously up their game, because there’s a lot of competition out there!

Best prego’s and crisp chips. Quite a small restaurant – not many place settings so make sure you book before. Great place for after work drinks on a Friday.
AMAZING food!!!!! Chicken livers are so divine that they converted me from not eating chicken livers to craving them. Lemon and herb chicken is fantastic as well!!!! Will be back often!!!!
