An Ok Breakfast Buffet spread. Their spread is mostly on the American & European model and doesn’t have much of the African local stuff. Also, nothing much from the Asian side. Still an acceptable Buffet for someone staying at the Hotel. They can surely increase the spread.
From the starter of a simple green salad, I failed to enjoy it. The fish was also over cooked and lacked flavour. I really struggled with my food.The waiting staff did a good job but the food let them down badly.
Holiday Inn Sandton hotel is a member of the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) and unlike its smaller counterparts, this lavish hotel welcomes its guests with extravagant chandeliers and a 10-metre long fireplace in the lobby. If you’re like me, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that this Holiday Inn is unlike any other Holiday Inn you may have experienced before. {READ MORE ON MY BLOG}
The evening started off great, we ordered the mussel pot and ostrich carpaccio as starters and about 20minutes later our waiter (trainee) arrived with the carpaccio and chicken livers. We could see the waiter was confused when he took our order, but we didnt realise how much exactly. The starters were great but the service just poor. We waited for about 10minutes after finishing our drinks for the waiter to return to take our new drinks order. My main course, the karoo lamb rack, ordered medium, was extremely rare. So rare that the centre was still cold and bloody. My fiancée ordered the chakalaka rump steak and her meal was cold upon arrival. We were not impressed
This review is gonna be one of those were in I’ve eaten numerous times that I know what will taste good and what stays mediocre. After 18 breakfasts, and numerous lunches and dinners later, I pen this out. Was staying at Holiday Inn and had a package where my breakfast meals were included. Otherwise, the Breakfast buffets can be very expensive. Breakfasts : – the variety is large. – I usually love Chicken / Pork sausages – but here, I felt that the outer layer was too leathery and it tasted awkward. – the live egg counter is as good as any other five-star offering. An omelette with cheese, onions, mushroom and ham became part of my staple breakfast. – The vegetarian options includes : hash browns (that are hard to bite into at times), sauteed mushrooms, baked beans, roasted tomatoes and some really good stir fried noodles. – breads with a wide variety of home made jams and nutella! – A lot of croissants, donuts and muffins – all of them tasted nice! – cereals and oats. – the fruits section is large as well. Enjoyed the peaches, pears and bananas in syrups. – yogurts – a few choices of them are there – but the best is the strawberry yogurt.  – juices –  I noticed that most of them were canned. The cranberry juice and lemonade were too sour. – but, overall, I would say that you’ll have a really filling breakfast here. Lunches and Dinners : A la Carte options. Limited options, though, especially if you are vegan. – The crumbed prawns are just too good. Only three large pieces come for a rather exorbitant rate – but taste wise, this is some of the best I have ever had. The sauce that comes with it does the magic, I guess. – Pummeralo Penna – the only vegetarian pasta they have. Large quantity and the taste of fresh tomato. Well cooked. However, as it has no other vegetables in it, it can taste a little bland. – Roasted Tomato Soup – needs an acquired taste. Din’t suit me well. Service : Friendly staff! They look out for every need of yours, especially during breakfasts. The used plates are removed by the time you take your next filling and come back. Bottomline : Great Food, high costs. However, it befits a five star experience!
