We visited Asanka on a Wednesday evening for dinner. Unfortunately the restaurant was empty, therefore I cannot comment on the service.I wanted to have the oxtail but it turned out it would take 3 hours to prepare because it was still frozen.I swapped my original choice for the beef stew which was good. The presentation was very nice and the sauces were an explosion of flavor.Overall the experience was pleasant, I would love to try it out again, when there is more of a vibe and to taste the oxtail.
I have my reservations about this restaurant. I am not convinced it was opened by someone passionate to showcase african cuisine. The menu looked interesting. My friend and I went there to give it a try. It was empty. Already a bad sign but that don’t bother me. The waiter could not be seen when I arrived. Service is bad. I feel sorry for the waiter. We ended up paying for our drinks and left without ordering.
Visited Asanka after rave reviews of their oxtail from my boyfriend. Asanka promises contemporary African food, with familiar dishes like jollof rice, plantain and dombolo on the menu. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon for lunch, a party of 3 and we were the only table for some time before one other couple was seated. This is quite glaring as the restaurant is huge with atleast 70-100 capacity. If you’re looking for vibe and ambience this is not the place for you. Our waiter was friendly and the service was good enough. We ordered the peri peri wings and prawn starters. The wings were delicious, moist, sticky and sweet though more BBQ than peri as there was little to no heat in them. The prawns were drenched in a thick 1000 island like sauce, not appealing but edible. We followed the starter with 3 orders of oxtail served with jollof rice and dombolo (steamed bread). The oxtail was cooked to be perfect consistency, it fell off the bone and was packed with flavor though it was a tad on the spicy side. Served with the jollof rice this was a winning combo. The dombolo was unfortunately dry with some parts of the bread remaining uncooked and hard.Overall an average experience, the oxtail was good and affordable compared to most restaurants. Probably wouldn’t return as I’m big on vibe. They need to something to inject some life into the restaurant.
