Papoulis Place is a homely local restaurant, located in Merrow Down Plaza (next to Society), which has a pub section that is popular with lots of locals in the Magaliessig area. I am going to start with what I liked about Papoulis Place:1. PP do not charge corkage and you are welcome to bring your own bottle of choice with you for your dining. 2. The owner was at hand on our visit walking around and checking on the kitchens.3. The manageress did come across to check on our experience of the meal whilst there. 4. The restaurant was busy (well the smoking section at least) which is usually a good sign.Food:Caprese salad – good. I thought that the avocado addition was a nice touch. Pizzas – excellent! Well-priced, large portions and generous toppings!!!!Ravioli – pasta parcels were under-cooked and hard to cut or chew. However the sauce accompanying it was delicious so if they had gotten it right, it would have been a fantastic meal! Interiors/Ambiance:We asked to be seated in the non-smoking section.. big mistake. We noted that we were the only people on a Friday night in the non-smoking section as we sat down and that should have been our first red flag.Nonetheless we were invested and I couldn’t face sitting outside and braving the winter’s cold.After pouring our first glass of wine, the manageress proceeded to walk through in front of us and scream and yell at our waitress (regarding a table outside) for nearly a full eight minutes. Thereafter the kitchen staff preparing takeaways and watching the sports on the TV nearby took over yelling back and forth to each other, which made speaking and hearing each other difficult throughout the meal. Service:Our waitress, (despite her phone ringing during the time that she was serving us) served us quickly and efficiently during our meal. Mexican pizza was not bad. Quite good in fact. But both ravioli and alio e olio pasta was disastrous. Ravioli was literally pizza meat dumplings swimming in salty pinky sauce which I could hardly eat. Alio e olio did not taste proper garlic and olive oil at all. Instead it was all watery with a peculiar smell. The waitresses were wearing their own cloths with flip flops?! Our waitress never came to our table to check on us. Gloomy lighting and a bit shabby ambiance was not pleasant either. It was my first visit upon my firend’s recommendation. Overall I am extremely disappointed.

The pizza and raviolli was amazing – some of the best we’ve had in Gauteng. The service was not too bad and our waitress was very friendly! Will definitely recommend this place to anyone.
Papoulis Place has delicious pizza & pasta. Scampi and snails are fantastic. The atmosphere is good and the service is always friendly.The host is very charming and serves an excellent espresso.
