20.09.2019 A little detour (and a hungry tummy) led me to this absolutely interesting find.Yes I may be slow to finding this place, but it’s not often that I am in midrand. Although I have heard of it before.I was actually looking for another indian spot but on arrival it was closed. I saw this shop with a massive queue during lunch time so figured let me see what’s on offer. Initially I was completely bamboozled by the prices on the boards until I remembered Kara Nicha’s Midrand is a vegetarian spot. The food on offer for a friday was Potato & Brinjal Curry, Broadbeans Curry, Veggie Biryani, Chana Dholl, Dholl and Tomato chutney. The price on the board for a Roti roll was R12. YES R12. A 1/4 Bunny was R12, a portion of Veg Biryani R17. So you could pick any of the curries in a roti or bunny and pay a ridiculously LOW price.I ordered 2 portions Potato Curry, 1 portion Chana Dholl, 6 Potato Samoosas, 4 Puri Patha, 2 pieces Burfee; Chana Magaj, Jelebi and 4 Rotis. ALL of this cost me a meager R65. I mean who charges R2 a roti????Come on people where else on earth can you feed someone on those prices. The quality of the food was really good, including decent portion sizes and I loved the Patha. They do sell other items (and sweetmeats) all at even more ridiculously low prices. In these economic times for some families, think this place is the perfect answer for tasty food – Affordable and a great variety. Let’s not forget it is the Tamil fasting month, so lots more people eating strictly veg at the moment. Will definitely go back again when in the area. Love their concept and may they continue to be successful in servicing the community.#TheFoodMusketeer#TheFoodMusketeerEats#TFMKaraNichhas
There curries are cheap. You cannot make it at home for that price. However, the curries and biryani are bland. Potatoes are always hard and unappetizing. Their special chips sandwich is legendary! Samoosas, chilli bites and veddas are awesome. One of the few places that still sells good slap chips. Service is fast but they only accept cash.
On 31 May 2019, at 15h36 I purchased 8 samoosas from Kara Nichhas. When I arrived home only to find 7 samoosas. This is not the first time the quality of the service is poor. Several occasions I had experience of poor service delivery, complained to the management but they did nothing to improve. Staff scratch and touch their head and continue serving. No use if gloves, as you can see their hands goes over the food.
100% vegetarian cuisine. Food is priced reasonably for Gauteng! I found the food lacking in spice and flavour. My kids enjoyed the chip special sandwich. The sweet meats were good. I loved the Jalebi.
