This is more a literal coffee shop (shop as in where you can come purchase coffee beans). Seating seems to be more of an after thought. The experience was still very interesting. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They also had some free cheese cake to offer. I wouldn’t come here to grab a cup of coffee with someone but I’ll definitely come pick up some coffee beans to gift.
When I received vouchers in my Online Tuesday Jozi Launch goodie bag from Urban Grind Roasters for a “Coffee Appreciation Course”, I was not expecting much. I thought that we would just have a cup of coffee and a short talk and tasting – well, I was pleasantly surprised!. We walked into Urban Grind on a Saturday morning for the Coffee Appreciation course and was immediately welcomed by their warm and friendly staff. The beautiful aroma of coffee and the shelves of interesting coffee paraphernalia on display enticed my senses as we made our way to the atrium where we were informed by two of their knowledgeable baristas that we would be taken through a 2.5 hour journey of the coffee bean.
I have recently discovered Urban Grind Roasters in a search for unroasted coffee beans in Johannesburg. I have been there twice and both experiences have been absolutely fantastic. The staff welcome you with utmost courtesy and friendliness. The combination of a vast array of freshly-roasted beans, in addition to every brewing method you can think of, results in one of the most pleasurable coffee experiences I have had in Johannesburg. If you want flat, boring and plain bitter coffee stuffed with milk and sugar, go someplace else. If you want artisanal coffee, prepared with the utmost care and precision, this is your place. The coffee you taste here, will give you a new perspective on what really good coffee is meant to taste like. In addition, the walls are decorated with beautiful coffee apparatus, in what can best be described as a museum of coffee paraphernalia. Eye candy for the coffee fanatic, which can be purchased. Urban Grind Roasters is my new coffee spot, no regrets.
