The venue in Maboneng is unique, with wine tasting, etc. However, despite the fact we booked in advance for restaurant week lunch, after we confirmed the order (although there was no choice) for the starter of Seared croquettes de saint Jacques, and main of Rosemary rack of lamb – we were told they had no lamb. The waitress said we could order something else off the menu, and the chef would make a plan with the price. I ordered the prawns – which were delicious. My husband ordered the Tomahawk steak – however he received fillet instead. The chef came and explained that they are changing the menus (although they were just printed on A4 paper – they didn’t bother to update them). He enjoyed the steak nevertheless. When it came to the price – we were cheated. They charged us the full menu price for the food as well as R150 for the 2 starters (that were part of the restaurant week menu). We should have only paid R300 for 2 restaurant week meals. There was no management in evidence. What a wasted opportunity to get some new business for them. There were very few other patrons – in fact we seemed to be the only ones eating.

Enjoyed an amazing birthday brunch yesterday, on the rooftop of Nine Barrels, which is called the Q Bar. To get there you walk up the stairs through an art gallery, just another way to enhance the experience. On arrival we were offered a complimentary glass of champagne, which we enjoyed while taking a great look of the fantastic view of the city. We started with a great selection of tapas, difficult to pin down our favourite but we ordered 4 of the 8 on the menu, and each had a great quality about them. They unfortunately didn’t have the camembert dish but the salmon was an amazing substitution. For our main dish we had a fantastically prepared steak and chips, it was superbly tender from start to finish, and to add to the service, the chef came out personally to make sure everything was okay.
