Was at the Arts on Main (Maboneng Market) and tried out the Fish and riceMust say it did not disappoint. The chilli was also quite tasty, sadly by the time we got there the plantain was finished hopefully next time I can try it out.
I’ve come across Kitoko Kitchen in a number markets in Jo’burg. And I’ve learnt by trial and error, to simply always order their lush platter. Don’t bother with any of the other starchy burgers, noodles or wraps on offer at these markets. Nothing compares to this husband & wife team’s generous serving of wildly flavoursome fish (I recommend the salt-water fish, and haven’t tried the goat), deep fried plantains (a sweet surprise), spinach greens (earthy and delicious), savoury rice (done to perfection) and an optional side of chilli chutney (just the right pow!). This is also a full meal for the hungry, when the other minuscule ‘gourmet’ portions on offer at these markets simply won’t cut it. Give your taste-buds a fusion ride to savour!
Have you ever had Plantain? West African and Brazilian delicacy. I absolutely enjoyed it. They served it with awesome goat meat. The sweet plantain goes very well with the well spiced goat meat. I would highly recommend it.
I had the plantane from the Kitoko kitchen. It was hot and spicy but the flavour was delightful and that’s basically how one can sum this place up. Good simple food food, but bursting with a variety of flavours papered with a generous portion size.
Ever eaten goat before?! Try it out here. Wow. That, their fish and shaka madesu. Get involved. You can find them in Melville and at 1Fox Street
