I have a philosophy that when eating out in Soweto no one can stuff up a chicken or a steak. Guess what, we got it wrong! It must have taken the three of us over half an hour to get a simple drinks order of wine and beer to our table. Another half an hour to get our starters, closely followed by one of our main courses before we’d even finished our starters! Apart from the location, the restaurant is a classic example of restaraunting in Soweto in general. The beer and wine is magnificent as it’s made elsewhere, everything else is second rate. They can’t even get the music right! We took a takeaway of the half chicken that they couldn’t even par cook by boiling properly, let alone brown on a kerosene tasting grill. We decided to leave with the food in a takeaway that we’d feed to our dog back home in Naledi (after cooking)! The poor waiters bore the brunt of our frustrations, apologizing profusely for the computers test weren’t working. Not their fault and we apologize if we were harsh. As for the owners who were not there, you’re an embarrassment. We moved on to Vuyo’s with the hope of a better experience.
The service is good but they could improve on the quality of their food though. I would go for the drinks there but not the food. Sakhumzi which is right next door, excuse the pun, serves better food and not the drinks. So usually we would eat there then hop to Nextdor for the drinks
Second time coming here purely because on both occasions the restaurant I wanted to go to was under construction. Regardless, the vibe is always great and the service was subpar to be honestly. We walked ourselves to our table while the waiters were just staring at us. Finally the waiter came and stood in front of us and said nothing lol no menu in hand. So we ordered drinks because we obviously had no choice, he later came back with menu’s on an A4 paper in plastic sleeves. So I ordered the chicken wings which was said to be accompanied by shoe string fries but instead I got potato wedges. The wings were delicious even though I asked for peri peri and instead received bbq. My date ordered one of their combos and instead of the chops he wanted ribs and was charged extra. He enjoyed his meal but expressed that it was overpriced. My only really big problem is the flies. I understand it’s outdoors but maybe they can do something because it was really not fun sharing my food with flies. Either than that and all the minor issues, it’s a nice place to chill. Oh there were also African dancers who came by to entertain us that was nice. If you don’t mind paying tourist prices then you’ll enjoy this place.
