Restaurant Vilakazi is one of the sophisticated restaurants in the most popular street in Soweto. It has a certain ambience that I can’t put my finger on. On to the food, I was there with a friend. I had Mogodu with samp and some vegetables. It was a beautiful combination but the samp was rather dry. My friend had rump steak with vegetables, she requested that the steak be medium to well but that wasn’t the case. But the meal was good and the ambience was on another level.

Took German visitor to Vilakazi street on sight seeing your.Went to Vilakazi restaurant for lunch.Wine list was very limited so we settled for water. We ordered the vegetarian platter- rice, mash, mushroom, spinach, butternut, stir-fry and chakalaka.Chicken breast grilled with lemon and butter.Could not resist going traditional- boerwors chargrilled, served with pap, chakalaka and spinach.Very reasonably priced at under R100Service started out unfriendly and turned quite pleasant. We were serenaded by four local lads with very pleasing voices. As South Africans we were only mildly impressed but our overseas guest was enthralled. Can imagine quite a buzz when busy
