Came across this place while taking a walk through the streets of Braam and based on recommendations, I was told it was worth trying. As the name suggests, I thought I’d try their Kota. Thought of trying it in its traditional form but opted for the steak instead of a russian based on what one of the staff members suggested, but also because they said they didn’t have chicken strips, which was my 2nd option. Pricey in comparison to your usual kota places albeit expected based on location. Service was decent but very disappointed that a business in the city of Johannesburg in 2017 doesn’t have a speedpoint/swiping machine. In terms of the actual food, the use of panini bread for a Kota doesn’t work as far as I’m concerned. The steak that was recommended wasn’t as great as they suggested but I must admit that the fries were absolutely amazing. Overall judgement in terms of taste and flavour, I think it was pretty average, nothing extraordinary. Presentation was quite good despite the fact the food doesn’t fit in the box they put it in. The standard Kota comes with chips, lettuce, atchaar (optional) and sauces and all the meat is an optional extra. I would’ve that that they would include at least 1 type of meat in the standard/plain/version with the option to add more or switch for another at a cost of course. But on the more positive side, great concept, great location, lots of potential and something that I think will be very successful. I think I’ll try it again a couple of times just to get a sense of how they other combinations come together.
Visited the place on the 7th April 2017 , asked for extra crispy chips , no spice . After nearly thirty minutes of being told they were making the chips extra crispy , i received half raw potatoes with some weird spice. Disgusting. Lesson learnt staw away from this rst trap
