Good food. Poor service. We had fillet, sweet potato fries, pork belly, roast vegetables and cappuccino. The food took long to arrive, I was brought potato fries instead of sweet potato fries and had to wait long for that too. At 8:30pm they were also out of the traditional Portuguese custard tartlets, pasteis de nata, for dessert – with the restaurant being quiet. Waiters were standing around in little clumps chatting amongst themselves. In no particular rush to go back again.
Initially, the seating was slightly slow but once seated, everything changed. The initially slow start was made up with complimentary snacks and dessert. The chicken liver was pretty good and the home made peri-peri sauce had a kick. The roll was soft and warm and it made for a wholesome starter. The picanha was prepared how I wanted it and had a crispness on the fat part. The mash that accompanied the dish had the right texture. Service was excellent and this is pretty good place.
This used to be Monterey Seafood, they kept the same decor, changed up the menu a bit and introduced flavours of portugal.I was happy they honoured the original seafood chowder starter that has now since been removed on menu but still advertised on facebook page as at 10 June 2018. The chowder was good but unfortunately the rest of dishes fell short. The order of Portuguese spatchcock was dry and bland, no flavour of portugal. This was returned to the order of prego roll. Guess the pictures will speak for themselves. Sushi was average, I had the tokyo dream platter, portion of rice to fish filling was out. Chips were good. The little complimentary lemon sorbet at end of meal was yum. For a restaurant of this size it was at most quarter full despite some reasonable specials. Does not deliver on flavours as promised, and even though plenty staff around, service is slow and watching them cluster together to discuss your unsatifactoray response to their food didn’t sit well with me. A dismal lunch for me.
As we walked past the restaurant, we wondered if there was something wrong, as it was quite empty. We were seated and our waitress came over to take our orders.I had the strawberry daiquiri cocktail, which was delicious. The waitress then placed a delicious bowl of sweet potato crisps on our table, which I absolutely loved. All our mains were beautifully prepared and were large in portion size. We had the fish and chips, half chicken, and the chicken and calamari combo. We thoroughly enjoyed our mains and decided to try their dessert menu. The only dessert we didn’t enjoy was the Nutella mousse. It tasted like a buttercream icing rather than a soft, fluffy mousse. The manager happily took this off our menu and promised to discuss this with the chef.My favourite part of the evening was when the bill arrived and it was served with a granadilla sorbet. What a unique and lovely way to end a diners experience. I absolutely loved it!An overall great experience!
