26.11.2019 Tapas with a South African Twist, that is what you will find at Tapered Tapas on 1st.It’s a bit of a hidden gem that I was able to discover in Linden with fellow foodies for a food and wine pairing evening with Waterford Wines. The food is made with fresh ingredients along with Spanish Influence and of course the SA twist.Tsepho Meyer, the owner has been on many food adventures around the world, and with that she has cultivated a menu that showcases her talent and her love for food, and it definitely shows in her menu.Tsepho also admits that due to her background and heritage, she grew up in a large family where food was always the focus in their household. If you are a fan of Waterford wines from the Stellenbosch region, then you will be happy to know that Tapered will be stocking them, specifically the Sauvignon Blanc, Grenache Noir, the Rose-Mary Rose and a few others.I was highly impressed with the Sauvignon Blanc, yet not so much with the Chenin Blanc (which is usually my go to) The Grenache Noir made me think again, it was pretty good on the palate. The Pebble hill and Shiraz was also not too bad, it went down well with the food. The Rose-Mary was a bit unusual for me, tasted completely different. As for the food we received while tasting the 6 wines, it was a delectable selection of homemade Hummus and Pita Breads, nice and warm and toasty; The Moorish Chicken Thighs with a Mojo Picon Sauce really hit the spot in terms of flavour and tenderness; Mozzarella stix with a Romesco Sauce; Jalapeno Poppers; Grilled Calamari and last but not least Rump with Chimichurri which was a winner. For the sweet ending for the last wine, was there superbly divine Chocolate Brownie, its definitely got a thumbs up from me. All the food was spiced to perfection and you can taste that everything had been carefully planned to compliment the taste and textures.Tapered as a business is also taking it one step further, with a huge love for their community and supporting local causes. All the staff are young learners who she is grooming for success in the business world, and that is the best reason to support them, besides the tasty food she prepares and delivers on your plate. Uplifting the community is such an awesome thing to do.My only thing for the evening, was the lack of ventilation, I think in future they will need some sort of fan or aircon system just to get some air flowing through as it was an extremely hot evening. They are on Instagram, twitter and facebook, so go check them out on social media and take a drive and have a meal. I am certain you wont be disappointed, and let me know about your experience.#TheFoodMusketeer#TheFoodMusketeerEats#TheFoodMusketeerDrinks#Taperedon1st#WaterfordWinesMartin Headger#TFMTaperedTapas
