I am a great fan of Prue Leith and have the highest regard for their food and service. Tonight I was really disappointed. The food was not nearly on the same level as always. Plating was poor and messy. I never mind paying for good food but tonight I paid with a very heavy heart. I am involved in training in the Hospitaltiy industry and was so disappointed in one of my favourite restaurants.
Coming to Prue Leith, one isn’t wowed by the entrance, but rather the moment you are greeted by the friendly and professional young chefs-to-be.  They are not only a Chefs Academy, but also an extension to give their young apprentices an opportunity to prove that they have what it takes to enter the world of food, cuisine and patisserie.  We enjoyed a lovely evening filled with great food and off course, the Crepe Suzette that are just my favourite and it comes with a demonstration as you watch how they flambé the crepes to perfection with the citrus syrupy sauce.  When going there, remember they are chefs in training and there might be a slip-up here and there, but presentation and food, tops!
I will not recommend this place to anyone. We arrived at 19:00 and was seated outside. The restaurant wasn’t very busy with not more than 14 customers. We ordered starters and it was recommended by the waitress that we place our order for mains as well – so we did.I had the snoek starter – it was absolutely delicious but this was basically it. The mains and desserts were nothing like explained on the menu and my beef was extremely dry and over cooked. The dessert was nice but once again it was totally different from the description on the menu.We waited between 45 and 50 minutes for each course and when we told the waiter this is totally unacceptable she advised us it is due to the restuarant being so busy. What I don’t understand as it was really quite. The head chef came to our table and explained the delay is due to the fact that we didn’t order mains with the starters – which is weird as we ordered our main maybe 5minutes afterwards. The manager of the chefs academy and his friends were also dining at the restaurant (we found out later the evening) and it was very clear the kitchen wanted to push their food out as soon as possible. The service was fair, but in my opinion if you are studying towards becoming a front of house manager in your final year you need to be able to handle unforeseen situations. For the inconvenience caused the desserts were on the house but it didn’t make up for the below average food and service. We left the restuarant at 22:30 even though we were the first guests.
