Made a booking, even phoned and confirmed the booking, got there and we was not even on the list. The lady that assisted us was very rude. When i called the lady said you could have the buffet or al carte menu, however she did not say if you ordered al la carte you would have to sit like a peasant outside the restaurant in dim lighting in the cold. The menu was limited and the food took forever to arrive. I wouldn’t go back there. The only good thing was the waiters.
This has been one of my favorite hotels to stay at. Rooms are lovely, staff are friendly and helpful. I did not enjoy the buffet at all. By die 3rd meal i had to order off the menu and that was definitely a step up. I had fish and vegetables. The chocolate brownies are yummy and i even bought one take away when we checked out.
The food and service was excellent. We ate at the buffet and the lamb curry was outstanding. I highly recommend it. Beautiful setting. The pianist is very talented and set the mood for a very romantic evening.
In a way, the rather low rating given by others (usually based on experiences related to hotel stays) means this place actually is a hidden gem in Durban. I went through on a weekend for the buffet which is pretty well priced for a seafood buffet. It was great. It wasn’t spectacular or mind warping. But it was great. The buffet was based around the fresh prawns and calamari that were made to order in front of you. You could watch if you wanted but they had a waiter dedicated to taking and delivering orders which was a nice touch. It was freshly prepared so it was really good. I preferred the garlic and lemon butter sauce compared to the peri peri so maybe take that as a top tip. The rest of the buffet was great. There were a few seafood curries (crab curry as well as a prawn & chicken curry – both good) and a big selection of non-seafood (including veg) which was also pretty good. I liked that everyone that was at the restaurant made an effort to dress up to come for dinner. And the live pianist just made it better. I’ve been to better buffets and places with better ambience. But that didn’t matter. What did was that this was an excellent experience and I left really satisfied.
Love staying at Coastlands musgrave, however the food ordered from the room service menu was horrible (for a lack of a better word)! We ordered the prego roll with chips and chicken roti. You are charged R30 extra to deliver to your room. The spice and sauce in both meals was excessive and inedible. Actually wasted our money ordering from the room service menu. You rather drive to a nearby restaurant or order from Mr. Delivery.
