Seeing that 1883 is situated within the well known Dunkeld Estate we expected great service and tasteful food. We were quite disappointed with the experience. The photos on the website did not represent the look of the restaurant at all. We had to change our order 3 times due to food being out of stock. The beef curry potjie was soft however there was no trace of curry. The beef burger was overcooked and bland. Doubt it that we will return

Loved the ambience at the place, had a great waitress Portia. The food was great, however the mustard they served tasted like something you’d find at a wimpy so that’s the one thing I didn’t enjoy! Had the cheese cake, which I’m not a fan of unless it’s baked but I genuinely enjoyed the one I had. The fried chicken livers starters were also very nice! Great experience all in all!

We rocked up at Dunkeld Estate late, and after replacing/buying 2 New Tires because of a blown one. Our accommodation was messed up ( Not by Dunkeld) and could not book a table that late.It was due to the Festival. We where accommodated in the Bar area, and the Staff our order out very quick. The Starters was divine. The Baked Mango Trout was delicious and crispy. Only negative for me was that I could not taste any mango, but it was still good.

1883 is a spectacularly finished restaurant situated inside the dunkeld estate which many would recognize for its brilliant fly fishing venue. The restaurant itself is well lit, but in such a way that it creates an atmosphere of warmth, comfort as well as the capacity for intimacy. Dunkeld can get extremely cold even on summer nights, but this is well compensated for by the multiple fire places in the restaurant building creating the desire to stay in 1883 for that much longer. The waiter was extremely friendly and even managed some playful banter. Service was good and on time. Except for the fact that when asked for a side of vegetables, I was given chips instead. Given that mistake, the waiter did offer to bring me a side of vegetables at no extra cost thereafter. This was much appreciated. I genuinely believe that the food was up to standard. It was prepared on time even though we were one of the only guests there. From the menu, the house specialties were a delight enjoyed by the whole table. I did get a bit too much fat on my steak, but other than that the black pepper and mushroom steak was a treat! 1883 is a warm, friendly, classy restaurant that will most likely not leave you disappointed. And as a recommendation I would suggest trying one of the house specialties! Good job to managers of 1883. I’ll definitely be coming back

Terrible service. The waitron was grumpy and the food was average. Really had to wait a while before dinner was served. Restaurant was quiet and the staff weren’t really attentive
