What a perfect spot for a lazy weekend lunch. The waiters were friendly and efficient, and we were welcomed with a smile. The food was glorious. Well prepared and tasty. We had the vegetarian burger and the spinach and feta pies. Both meals were absolutely delicious and perfect in ever way. We enjoyed our meal in a leisurely fashion in the beautiful garden under the trees. I would go back!

Were here for Xmas day lunch. What a disaster. The place was packed and we had to stand in the long, long, very long queues for most of the time we were there. The food came out late and when it finally arrived all the guests went at the same time to dish up, and there were close to 90 people. I feel that the restaurant could have firstly ensured the food is on time and 2ndly put more effort into how exactly so many people were going to dish up at the same time. We even had to wait for people that arrived late to finish their starters before the restaurant brought out the mains, how ridiculous. I have never had to stand in such a long queue to wait for food. More than 2 and a half hours in, we just had our mains and we decided that we were not even going to attempt the queues for deserts and cheese boards. Poor, poor planning. Even the poor kids that were there got borred, there was not even some sort of entertainment for them. The starters were okay. The main meal was a disaster from start to finish. Overcooked meats, mushy vegetables all of which lacked basic seasoning. We even had people behind us that smoked from their table and there was no sight of management. At R695 a head this was a total disappointment. Management did not even bother to get back to me when I sent my complaint to them. What a pity as the venue looked nice and cosy. The entertainment was also good.
Very disappointed. We made a booking for 11am for 5 people. We arrived and our name wasn’t on the list. When they finally let us in, the hostesses was rude to us and they didn’t even have a table ready for us. They threw our cutlery on the very dusty table and rushed us through our breakfast.
A week and a half ago I took an overseas friend, who was visiting Johannesburg briefly, for a drive outside of Jozi. I called ahead to make a reservation for lunch at Die Ou Pastorie. It has been on my list of places to try for a long time and it certainly lived up to all my expectations. The booking was made through a warm and friendly person. We sat on tbe patio during our starters and then moved into the garden for our mains. I ordered the chicken liver pate which was out of this world. I’ll be back just for that. We both ordered pies (duck and beef & red wine) and both were exceptional. I am still not sure which one I enjoyed more. The service was warm, welcoming and attentive without being invasive. I’ll be back for sure.
