We have travelled far and wide and experienced plenty of hotel breakfasts and right here is where you will find one of the best breakfasts. A wide variety to choose from and not just what you would find at a normal breakfast table but much more – a wide spread. Live piano musician.Amazing decor – bold and beautiful ornaments and plants. Outdoor seating is breathtaking surrounded by water features. Highly recommended – proudly South African.
It’s the first time I went to the palace and was expecting really regal breakfast and high tea. I’ve heard that the palace used to have quail eggs, duck, mince and sushi but I didn’t see it at the breakfast buffet. This was disappointing because I would have loved to try those for breakfast. The service is a bit slow and the waiters sometimes forget things. The service is faster on the weekdays. Breakfast thought was okay it wasn’t mind blowing. They had oysters and champagne if that’s your thing. The nice thing was that they also had a pianist and that was a special touch to the breakfast.I went for high tea too. It looked really great but it didn’t taste as great as it looked. Also I see from some of the older reviews that there were more tea selections to choose from. We had choice of about 6 or so. Also I see from previous reviews from 2016 or so there were these different sugars even multi coloured ones. We didn’t have that at So I believe the standards have dropped. It looked beautiful though and there is a pianist who plays there so that was a nice touch as well. Also, since it’s the palace I expected more pastries and cakes- just a wider selection.I’ve had better breakfast so I wouldn’t go there if I had a choice. The high tea is unmatched in terms of selection and presentation. But the taste isn’t great. I’d come for the atmosphere and the silent hope that the pastries etc tastes better this time round. Honestly the best thing of the high tea was the scones- that says much.I ordered a dessert from room service- sticky toffee pudding with custard. It was horrible. It tasted like burnt coffee. If my review was based purely on this item I would give it a 1. It was barely digestible.I hope they don’t drop their standards further because I can say that it is merely satisfactory.
We had breakfast here every morning as it was included in the price. A good thing as I saw the booklet of the price for a full breakfast and it is ridiculous. The breakfast offerings were very good, the normal buffet stuff I can’t complain there it was just again, the service. You have to wait so long for toast and coffee that you are almost done when it comes. I really got an overall feeling that the hotel was severely understaffed in all their restaurants while we were there. We also had the dinner buffet. Again, a very big selection and most dishes I had were okay, again nothing special. Almost fell on my back when I got the bill and see they charge R400 per person for a buffet. I did not nearly eat R400 worth of food, nor did my husband or my son. A complete rip off, but again in line with the other overpriced restaurants in the hotel.  Considered going for high tea but again when I saw the price and the offerings (which were basically the leftover deserts from the buffet) and very few salty options I decided not to.I honestly don’t see myself eating at any of these restaurants again or staying at the Palace as all I got was bad service from beginning to end and my pocket paid dearly for it.
