When you walk in and see the ocean splashing up against the walls, you can’t help feeling a sense of awe and gain a new respect for the power of the sea as you feel the vibration of the waves smashing against the rocks. There is no other venue quite like Coral Reef, and it transported me back to being on a cruise ship, literally dining in the middle of the ocean – it really does feel like you’re drifting in the sea!The restaurant is very small, with limited amount of space per evening. I recommend you book and make sure to ask for a seat by the window. We ordered a bottle of wine, our waiter brought us a basket of deliciously warm and freshly baked bread, and we spent a good time just staring out the window and trying to take epic photos of the waves breaking against the rocks.We launched straight into our mains of parmesan crusted kingklip and fillet. I’m not a huge fan of kingklip, but this one was done just right and the parmesan crust rounded the dish off perfectly! The mash and potatoes it came with was delicious, but I would’ve preferred to have a bit more variety rather than 2 starchy sides. The spinach was quite tasteless and would’ve been better had it been creamed. My better half’s fillet was a sensation and ended up on his list of best steaks he’s ever eaten.We shared a dessert of chocolate brownie, paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I loved the crunchy, baked crust of the brownie and the soft, moist inside, but my better half thought that the crust was a bit hard. We racked up quite a bill, but I guess you pay for the view and the privacy as well. Perfect place for a romantic dinner date or just an intimate dinner with family and friends. The food is tasty and comes in decent portions. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit!
