What a fantastic restaurant to spend our last night in Plettenberg Bay – Plettenberg Park pulled out all the stops, offering a romantic venue with a beautiful view of the ocean, private dining at its finest and delicious food to match. It’s a pity that the weather had turned bad, because I would’ve loved to have enjoyed a drink on the deck before sitting for dinner. However, we still enjoyed the fantastic view from our table. The restaurant is small, with only about 4 or 5 tables in total. Our table was located right next to the fireplace, which I think would make for a very cozy dinner in the winter. A lot of the starters sounded good, but we settled for soup – me ordering the gazpacho and my better half going for the potatoe and leek soup. By far, his choice was the winner – smooth and creamy, it was absolutely scrumptious and I’m so glad that he allowed me to share with him. The gazpacho was very spicy, but strangely enough, it didn’t burn your mouth. For mains, I couldn’t not order the salmon, whereas my partner has a soft spot for pork belly, so he ordered that. Both dishes were fantastic, top quality. When asked if I had food envy, I said yes and no. No, because my salmon was out of this world. Yes, because the pork belly looked delicious and I would’ve loved to share if my better half would stop refusing to eat seafood. His pork belly was perfect – a decent portion of meat, not overly fatty and cooked to perfection. Both dishes came with mashed potatoe, which was also outstanding and definitely helped to make the dish beyond delicious! Also, our mains came with a complimentary side of vegetables, which I regretfully did not try, but my partner said they were fantastic.Unfortunately, they couldn’t make chocolate malva pudding for us, so we ended up sharing the ice cream and the creme brûlée. Personally, I preferred the creme brûlée – it was basic, but well executed. I felt the ice cream was very underwhelming – basically normal vanilla ice cream, sliced into shards, arranged into an impressive looking display and finished off with cream and an espresso shot. Maybe it’s just because I didn’t like the espresso. We racked up quite a bill, but we did come with the intention of going big. So it was no surprise. However, I must admit that you do get quality for your money, and I think we both rolled out of there with satisfied, full bellies. Would recommend it for a date night if you’re looking to treat someone special. I’d definitely be returning in the future!
We have seen and heard of this place for a long time, but this morning was the first time we actually went. The setting and scenery are beautiful! The service is so so friendly, despite the fact that the breakfast service was about to end, the chef said he was more than happy to accommodate us and give us a full continental and warm breakfast! It was divine! The coffee was great, food good and they have an awesome lunch and dinner menu.
Plettenburg Park Hotel’s restaurant is a true gem and goes down as my FAVOURITE spot in Plett for a cocktail and lazy afternoon spent in the sun. As such, I wasn’t surprised to hear that this is a very popular proposal spot for young couples getting engaged. Their restaurant’s location, service, and features are just some of the many things that make Plettenburg Park Hotel restaurant an unbeatable option if you are wanting to impress! I feel as if they truly should feature in several Zomato categories. What a beautiful ambient spot! I will be back again and again..
