Great hotel breakfast. Set in Lush Grounds, the Manor transports you back to a regal time. All meals were outside under The Logia. Dinners were well priced and excellent. The BBQ or braai was so-so. The wine was value priced, They had a variety of Gins. We ordered a cheese platter with champagne to watch the sun set Magical.

I recently visited The Retreat Kitchen for a catered picnic and I was truly satisfied with the experience. The first thing to note is the breathtaking view and set-up of the restaurant. The Victorian Manor-style of the restaurant overlooks the sea and picturesque natural vegetation just beyond the lawns, where the picnic was set up. The ambience is relaxed, welcoming and on the day, warm given the abundance of sunshine. The second thing to note is the great service of the chef and service manager. The picnic had a pre-set menu which was tailored to suit the many needs of my fussy foodie friends, ( Sarah Mason,Ulika Baijnath) thanks to the very accommodating chef. The service manager, Van Zyl, is possibly the friendliest, most helpful and efficient person and ensured my experience was truly enjoyable, even turning into our personal photographer for the occasion. The pre-set menu was healthy, light and enjoyable. Some of its remarkable constituents were the chicken kebab skewers, mushroom tartlets and a couscous and chickpea salad. The sweet treats were equally as exciting with individually wrapped muffins, homemade toffees and possibly the best brownies I have ever tasted. Though we did not indulge in any alcoholic beverages, our virgin mojitos were great with a perfect balance of sweet and sour. I will definitely be back here to try their restaurant menu, as I am sure Deee will be too.
Disappointed with our dinner at The Retreat Restaurant last night. The house is beautiful and beautifully furnished. The restaurant however felt more than a dinner area only for guests. The food tasted good but very boring. We had the beef fillet at R215 which consisted of a tender piece of steak, with boring mash potato and red onion grilled. Definitely not worth R215. We had to listen to house music coming from the kitchen, not suiting the style of the restaurant. This restaurant should perhaps focus on serving their guests only and not advertise as an open restaurant.
Quiet. Intimate. Lovely for a romantic dinner. The Dorado was very tasty and the coffee was superb. I imagine it would be lovely to visit on a Summer’s day.
