Not my scene at all. Read about this place on Zomato, judging from the positive reviews I was quite eager to experience Boere Sjiek. The location is strange, surrounded by industrial supply factories (Bucco and Timbercity). The first thing that hits you as soon as you walk in is the smell- it smells strange. I would describe the smell as an old school library, or a museum. It smelt stale and musty. It has an eerie atmosphere. I understand some individuals would love this place and love antiques, and may even find it cute and quirky – however, it just didn’t work for me. The antiques and decor are pretty and interesting to look at, but actually sitting there having some cake felt odd and uncomfortable. The service is very friendly but felt very ‘homely’ and unprofessional. Our cake was ok, not great but just ok. The cappuccinos – boiled, milky water with a burnt coffee after taste – they were BOILING hot and arrived long after the cake (exactly as mentioned by another reviewer on Zomato). It’s not worth the drive out into the industrial area and was quite disappointing.
Boeresjiek was a wonderful experience. The place is breathtakingly beautiful, service is friendly and its such a relaxed atmosphere surrounded by stunning vintage&antique decor. The food was excellent started off with their bacon&mushroom quiche with fresh side salad and had a decadent slice of red velvet cheesecake,my hubby had the chocolate cheesecake&lemon meringue tartlet. Will defnitely be back.
I’d been dying to try this restaurant out since I saw it on Zomato. It is in quite a strange location – my friend was sure that we were lost. However, once you go inside you soon forget the outside location. It is so overwhelming with so many different interesting things to look at. Service was great. My chai latte was good too. However my carrot cake was quite average. Overall a very good experience- next time I will try a different cake!
