Dave and I headed up the mountain to Idiom Wines to do a Cape Blend Wine Tasting. Alberto Bottega’s vineyards are known as Da Capo and his style of wines mainly reflect his Northern Italian heritage. The Cape Blend is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon or Pinotage, with Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc playing a supporting role. This wine tasting was accompanied by a canapé platter with rib eye prepared in 4 different ways served with wine powder and bucchu and beetroot purée.
Shooo what a beautiful spot! Tucked away at the foot of the mountains, it’s a bumpy drive past horses and ducks and sheep to the top of the hill. The restaurant itself is gorgeous – big bright windows, elegant decor, divine! The wine is delicious, and they allow you to taste at the bar before ordering your bottle. The prices range from R100 bottle up, so it’s quite affordable. Our table had a variety of dishes, including – the beef fillet, duck breast, anitpasta plate, and the burger with a pink bun! Everything was delicious, the burger had rave reviews, and I particularly enjoyed my exquisite beef fillet. I also tasted the duck which was very flavoursome, just a bit tough. A stunning venue, excellent service, and wonderful food 🙂
