Was here 6 weeks ago and was blown away Inexplicably this with Dutch guests it was appalling bad From soap stained wine glasses to a hostess you simply plonked the wine down, filled glasses with indifference and Leo saying ‘ this wine is good with steak’ WTFEven the wine tasted oxidized Think wine was left over from day before? So disappointing
The R10 entrance fee does make sense once you see what the gardens have to offer. I would definitely plan an earlier start to walk through the gardens – map provided. We booked the cellar tour + wine tasting combo. Cellar tour was interesting and arriving at harvest time added that extra element of interest as we were talked through the wine making process. After the cellar tour we returned to the wine tasting centre where we sat on the patio and we’re introduced to the wines on offer for tasting. Lots of time for asking questions. We topped this off with a picnic lunch in the gardens – beautiful and highly recommended
Upon arriving you pay an entrance fee of R10 per person. Very confusing as other wine farms don’t charge you to enter their premises. Driving through the estate you realise that there is so much more to offer than just tasting wine. Beautiful vineyards with enormous grounds perfect for walks or picnics under the beautiful oak trees. The tasting room is very modern with a chic, elegant touch. A leaflet is given about the history of the farm as well as explaining each wine. The wines selected are all brought on a tray simultaneously to the table and you are left on your own accord with your leaflet reading about the wines you selected. Personally I would’ve liked a little personal interaction from the staff promoting the wines. I couldn’t really taste the difference between the Chardonnay Premium & the Reserve. Overall the wines were nice and enjoyable.
If I was reviewing this place on the gardens and surrounding area it would get a full on 5! The place is stunning and the historical sites are really interesting. The tasting center itself, was OK. The wine was in such small portions I couldn’t actually taste whether I enjoyed it or not, so needless to say I didn’t buy any of the wine, which I always do when I go for a tasting.I will be back to try the restaurant so hopefully that will match the beautiful surroundings!
I recent read an article on how wonderful the wines were. On arrival we found there is an entrance fee of R10 per person which is fine considering the way the gardens are. So amazing. We arrived at the wine tasting with an Italian modern looking feeling. I’ve walked away after our wine tasting very mixed. Wines were ok, we found no difference between the Chardonnays in taste and look. What turned me off was the fact that all wines were placed in front of us and explained in one hit. Dunno if I’ll be back.
