I have mixed feelings about this place. The menu seems to be different, with all the good things like crab cakes taken off the menu. The new interior update looks a bit cold and the lighting is too harsh for a steak restaurant. We were a table of 20+ people and the place was super full, but service was good and surprisingly fast. The food however was more misses than hits at our table. Those with the ribs and fish loved their meals. But the sides were not good. Mash was stodgy and not creamy and the mixed veggies very oily. The prawn curry was not well received and the soup starter was basically a veg stew. I had the ribeye. I love ribeyes for their fat marbling, but this piece of meat was not a good one at all.The desserts were laughably bad. Brandy pudding ok, cheesecake, ice cream and the rest not great. There are far better steak places in Cape Town. Will give this one a miss next time.

Came to City Grill for a night out with mates. We’re all steak eaters and quite tough on steak houses. This place did not disappoint. The steaks were done perfectly according to our request. The only downside is the lack of sides available and sauces. Can’t say too much about the drinks as we stuck to beers. They do have quite an extensive wine menu which is a wine lovers heaven. Just be prepared to pay tourist prices for everything
It would be nonsensical not to order a steak at a place who specializes in almost every cut, and in every cut of animal! Both the fillet and ribeye were tender and full of flavour, the veggies roasted to perfection and friendly service. I only forgo a star for the sole purpose of no grass fed options in relation to the sky high prices. Be it pretentious, I hold to the ideal that in catering to so many tastes, it should include EVERYTHING!
