For a restaurant at a hotel, it was decent. We had ordered drinks with our waiter that took an incredibly long time to arrive. I watched as he struggled with our order of a dim Pedro, glass of wine and a castle light. For mid-January, your staff should be trained already. One of the people at our table ordered a chicken burger, that came out quickly and looked delicious. It was packed with yummy ingredients and the chips were great! The waiter misheard our order for 1 burger and brought 2 but he sorted that issue out on his own. Overall it’s a good location and the decor is nice but the service was a tad slow.
The only thing I was impressed by throughout the dining experience was the service. We ate from the chef’s feast(predominantly Malay food). The starter of samoosas , savoury treats and meatballs drowned in sauce had no seasoning , I have grabbed better samoosas on my way out of Spar. The dish was also dry. The main meal which was chicken and lamb curry(my familiar favourite at home) which I looked forward to , again had so much flavour missing. Definitely not authentic Malay. The lamb was very soft and succulent which at least made that dish slightly enjoyable. My ultimate dissapointment came from my dessert fruit salad which landed on my table within 4minutes. I could tell that it was out of a tin due to the depth of syrup surrounding my fruit. Because I no longer eat sugar I was dissapointed by the overpowering sweet syrup taste.
Serves traditional Cape Malay food. Chef feast special consists of a choice between two starters, four main dishes and a dessert. Tasty, flavorful and generous portions.
Excellent Cape Malay food, huge portions, great price, good service, and lovely decor. The Chef’s Feast is a terrific deal- the Savoury Malay Platter is a great and substantial starter, with divided plate of samosas, meatballs, breaded prawns, etc. and nice dipping sauces. The chutney is thick and delicious, like Mrs. Balls. The main course selections (pick 4) are enormous and delicious. The 2 portions of bobotie and 2 portions of lamb pumpkin bredie were enough for 2-3 people, half of which I couldn’t finish, even though they tasted great. The traditional Malva pudding dessert was excellent. My son also loved the Penang Curry selection. A must-visit.
Food was tasty and well presented although the lamb was tough and the cheeseboard substandard.Parking is a nightmare – a bad arrangement that feels unsafe.Nice as a once off but l wouldn’t return.
