Jet lag makes my stomach turn at the thought of yet another meat-heavy Cape Malay-inspired meal so curiosity brings us to Bo Kaap. Started with the Bang Bang Prawn. Very fresh shrimp and avocado, deep fried. What’s not to like?. They have a more limited selection of fish than we’re used to. US sushi includes a menu of at least ten choices, varying in quality as some of it probably sits when it doesn’t sell. Izakaya Matsuri only has salmon, tuna, and a daily linefish for raw options, and I appreciate the use of super-fresh, in-season ingredients.
One of my favourite spots in the city – and such a gem. Simplistic Japanese food that lets the ingredients do the talking. Sushi is the predominant item on the menu, but the octopus starter, gyoza and specials are delicious too!
Service was exceptional, food was mindblowing. I can’t actually pick any favourites except to say TRY EVERYTHING. Will definitely go again. It is a little pricy overall but so worth it.
Not only was the suahh oc premium delight but you know you hit the swedtspit when Japanese keep coming and going for their hometown favourites. Could not fault a thing, wonderfully authentic with friendly service!
